Kurt is dedicated to helping clients such as business owners, doctors and retirees meet their financial potential through a dedicated and disciplined planning process. He approaches each client as unique and develops a comprehensive plan tailored specifically to the goals and needs of each.

His empathy and integrity are evident in everything he does. “Being able to put myself in their shoes helps provide personalized advice and support that aligns with their needs and aspirations,” Kurt adds.

On a daily basis, you’ll find Kurt meeting with clients and prospects, and managing investments at Leonard & Martens, LLC. “We pride ourselves on our ability to communicate complete financial concepts in a clear and understandable manner.”

After earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of San Diego, Kurt started his career as a CPA with Price Waterhouse in 1988 and continued at Deloitte in 1993. He provided financial advisory services to a diverse range of clients that included individuals, estates and corporations.

In 1995, Kurt was hired as the Senior Vice President of Finance and Strategic Planning for Koniag, Inc., an Alaska Regional Native Corporation. He was integral in the development of the company’s long-term strategic financial plan and asset allocation.

After several years with Koniag, Inc., Kurt served as CFO of Mosaic Asset Management, a hedge fund in San Francisco. In 2005, he joined forces with Jeff Leonard to form Leonard & Martens, LLC.

The affiliation with Raymond James was also a positive factor to Kurt. "I felt that the firm’s underlying corporate culture aligned perfectly with my own outlook.”

In support of his community, Kurt has served on the board of Junior Achievement of Alaska for nearly 20 years, and he has taught hundreds of classes as a volunteer. In the past, he served as a board member and volunteer of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alaska; as a board member, treasurer and volunteer of the Eva Foundation of Alaska, and as a finance committee member of Commonwealth North.

Kurt is a lifelong Alaskan, born in Anchorage where he lives today with his wife. In his free time, Kurt enjoys camping, cooking, sports, travel and spending time with his wife, daughters and their families.
