Kurt Martens

Owner, Leonard & Martens LLC, Investment Consultant, RJFS

Born and raised in Alaska, Kurt joined Leonard & Martens, LLC in 2005 after spending several years in San Francisco working in the heart of the investment securities business.

Kurt's financial consulting career started with Price Waterhouse in 1988, continuing in 1993 at Deloitte & Touche.  At Price Waterhouse and Deloitte, Kurt provided financial advisory services to a multitude of clients ranging from individuals and estates, to large corporations.

In 1995, Kurt was hired as the Senior Vice President of Finance and Strategic Planning for Koniag, Inc., an Alaska Regional Native Corporation.  There, Kurt's vision was integral in the development of the company's long-term strategic financial plan.  This plan provided detail guidance for asset allocations between stocks, bonds, real estate and operating companies.  This plan was designed to successfully stabilize profitability while simultaneously decreasing risk exposure.

After several years with Koniag, Kurt accepted an opportunity to work with San Francisco investment firm, Mosaic Asset Management.  There, Kurt was integral in risk management, portfolio analysis, and investment product development and implementation.  At Mosaic, Kurt worked closely with some of the best minds on Wall Street.

In 2005, Kurt joined forces with Jeff Leonard of J.S. Leonard & Associates to form Leonard & Martens, LLC.

Raymond James named Kurt a "Rising Star" in 2009 and 2010 and then to the Executive Council from 2011 through 2016 and the Leader's Council in 2017. These honors are presented to select few independent financial advisors around the nation who have demonstrated an extremely high level of commitment to clients through personal service and professional integrity.  Membership is based mainly on prior fiscal year production.  Re-qualification is required annually.

Kurt is a member of the American Society of CPAs, the Alaska Society of CPAs, the American Management Association and the International Association of Financial Planners.  He is on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Alaska and formerly on the board of the Eva Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  He has previously held Board positions on many other non-profit and for-profit entities.

Kurt enjoys camping, cooking, sports and spending time with his family.  He is married and has three wonderful daughters.
